Suppression of the COVID-19 pandemic effects
The Innovation Fund and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia have recognized the importance of the ozone sterilization in buildings and supported the project entitled "OZON CARE", under the public call for the suppression of the COVID-19 pandemic effects, thus enabling free of charge ozone sterilization over 500.000 m3 of space in public buildings.
What is OZONE?
Ozone is the most powerful natural sterilizing agent that can completely eliminate microorganisms, bacteria and viruses, remove odors and mold.
Ozone is naturally occuring in the ozone layer of the Earth atmosphere whose function is to protect the living world from the harmful radiation from the Sun. On earth, we can smell it as a clean and crisp smell of fresh air, following large-scale discharges such as thunderstorms and lightning.
Ozone molecule is consisted of three atoms of oxygen. This molecular structure is very instable, eg. reactive, easily interacting with other molecules and via oxidation reaction destroying the microorganism or pollutants molecular structure, simultaneously transforming to stable molecular structure with two atoms of oxygen.
Ozone is one of the most effective sterilizing agents when adequate concentration is achieved in the indoor space.
Scientific studies and laboratory analyzes confirm the 99% - 100% destruction efficiency of viruses and bacteria when the ozone concentrations of 15 ppm - 25 ppm are reached.
The ozone generator EN-10K is designed to achieve a concentration of 15-25 ppm with expert handling and monitoring. This high concentration of ozone, which is necessary for the success of the sterilization process, poses a serious risk to human health and without adequate protective equipment for safe operation, it is not possible to sterilize the indoor space with ozone.
Sterilization of the indoor space by OZONE
Safe ozone sterilization of business premises, healthcare facilities, vehicles, schools, children's institutions, hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, ventilation systems can be performed quickly and efficiently, during and outside working hours and with minimal interference with the clients established work processes.
Ozone sterilization must be carried out taking the full protection measures, which means that there are no people in the sterilized area during the process without adequate personal protective equipment.
The half-life of ozone is 30 minutes, depending on the dimensions of the space and the time of ozonization, the operators remove the ozone generator after a time sufficient to fully degrade the residual ozone to a safe concentration.
After sterilization by ozone for 1 to 2 hours, using an EN-10K ozone generator for a space of 500 m3, it is necessary to wait a minimum of 30 minutes for the residual ozone to decompose into oxygen before returning people to the sterilized space, unless there is natural ventilation. If more than one ozone generator is used, the duration of the sterilization process is significantly shortened, and if there is natural ventilation, the entire sterilization process of 200 m2 (or 500 m3) space can take up to 30 minutes.
Expert and trained personnel handling these devices ensure the efficiency and safety of field applications of the ozone generators.
US Environmental Protection Agency, EPA has set the norm for the safe exposure of humans to ozone to 0.075 ppm/8h.
Guided by this recommendation, the indoor space ozonization service implies
restoring the indoor space to a safe zone with a maximum of 0.01 ppm ozone.
